MR2 Mk 2 launched 1990: mid-engined, rear-wheel drive, independent front suspension, disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering.
This mid-engined coupe was around for ten years. Out of production for some time now, it’s ageing gracefully and still commands top used prices.
Buyers who want an attractive, stress-free coupe, or an open roofed T-Bar, need look no further than the excellent MR2.
MR2 kept pace with many of the safety developments during its 10-year production run and has side impact bars and ABS brakes
Even when you pop out the roof panels in the T-Bar there is room behind the seats leaving the boot free for luggage.
There is a surprising amount of room in this two-seater. Despite its compact proportions, there’s plenty of leg and headroom.
Seats are well cushioned.
Not a cheap car to buy, although servicing and spares are only marginally more than the Celica.
There are plenty of good independents around who will service it cheaply.
Like all other Toyotas, the MR-2 has been one of the most reliable models of its type. Since its 1990 launch, there have been no major quality, or breakdown problems.
